Triple homicide may be result of robbery

The Monday afternoon shooting that killed three men "does not appear to be a random act," police said Tuesday, adding that it may have been the result of a home-invasion robbery.

Authorities identified Jorge Guzman Reynaga, 26, as the man found dead in the driveway of 512 Stanford Ave. in the unincorporated San Mateo County neighborhood of North Fair Oaks, near Redwood City, where he lived. The identity of the two other men, aged 25 to 30, who were found dead in the home, should be released today, officials said.

"This does not appear to be a random act," Sheriff’s Lt. Marc Alcantara said. "In fact, our preliminary investigation suggests that this event may be a result of a home invasion robbery."

Police are looking into why there were so many guns found in the home on the street that Stanford Avenue residents called quiet and family-oriented.

"There were quite a few guns inside the home," Alcantara said.

He declined to say how many, or what kind of guns were found, due to the ongoing investigation.

San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office officials also said Tuesday that they have not yet ruled out the possibility that the attack was related to gang activity or drug dealing.

Police were notified of the shooting at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday and arrived at the scene on the 500 block of Stanford Avenue four minutes later, according to Lt. Marc Alcantara, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses saw a light blue Honda leaving the scene with a Hispanic male driver and two female Hispanic passengers who were crying. No arrests had been made and no further suspect description has been released.

Five candles with images of Jesus on them were lit in the driveway of the home Tuesday along with two vases, each holding white flowers. A side door from the home’s garage, a converted living space, was boarded up with a piece of wood where a small Mexican flag hung.

Neighboring businesses and residents in the primarily Hispanic neighborhood said they would regularly see cars stop at the home, and that they saw a lot of drinking take place there.
