Trial in fatal BART shooting rescheduled to June

The Los Angeles murder trial for Johannes Mehserle, the former BART police officer accused of killing unarmed passenger Oscar Grant III at the Fruitvale station in Oakland on Jan. 1, 2009, has been rescheduled to June 1. Mehserle’s lawyer claims the shooting was accidental because Mehserle meant to use his Taser stun gun on Grant but fired his pistol by mistake. The trial was moved from Alameda County because the publicity around the case jeopardized Mehserle’s chance of getting a fair trial.
