Transient’s tent torched in SoMa

A woman who allegedly tried to set a fellow homeless person’s tent on fire in a dank South of Market alley early Thursday simply won’t leave the guy alone, police said.

The homeless man told cops he has no idea why the woman, who has allegedly attacked him before, tried to set the tent ablaze while he slept about 3 a.m. in the 500 block of Jessie Street, police said.

“He doesn’t understand what her motive is,” police Officer Carlos Manfredi said. “There was no lover’s quarrel or anything.”

The 56-year-old transient said he woke up “feeling something was wrong,” then noticed somebody trying to light his tent on fire, Manfredi said. He leapt from the tent, avoiding injury, and allegedly spotted 34-year-old Lavonda Myles running away.

Myles was subsequently arrested.
