Trainwreck gets worse: John Edwards sex tape

Can I get an encore, y'all?                 (ap photo)

Please, please, please can the big mess that is John Edwards finally please just go away? Apparently the answer is no.

The revelations of his affair, denials, the dashing around hotel stairwells with reporters from the Enquirer in frantic pursuit, sordid details in that recent book, the forthcoming book from his former aide, his anticlimactic and belated acknowledgment that indeed, Frances Quinn is his baby (no duh!), then reports of J.E. banished to Figure Eight Island, relentlessly hitting on blonde bartenders, then turning up in Haiti -- make the hurting stop! We want no more of this! No wonder John Kerry couldn't stand the guy!

But if history has taught us anything, if we as a nation know one thing for sure, it's that John Edwards has so much more to share with us. Including, now, allegedly, a sex tape.

It's hurting our eyes! We must look away but cannot! A Gawker exclusive:

Sources have told us that, in the throes of their affair, John Edwards and Rielle Hunter made a sex tape that contains "several sex acts." And that his aide, Andrew Young found it on an unmarked DVD...

It was this betrayal that prompted Young to write his tell-all book, The Politician, out February 2. Background: The New York Daily News reported last June that Young mentioned the existence of the tape in his book proposal. It's expected that he'll reveal further details in that story, and in the 20/20 interview to promote it, to air on Friday. "It [the tape] was kind of the last straw for people who had sacrificed savings and jobs to lie for John," said one of our sources.

Edwards saga followers will recall that Young also was the guy who pretended that Hunter was his mistress and that he fathered Frances Quinn -- to cover for Edwards -- at Edwards' behest, of course.

John Edwards -- it's so "Lindsay Lohan" to have a sex tape right now. Sex tapes were so mid-90s! Who do you think you are, Colin Farrell? Dustin Diamond?
