Traffic stop leads police to explosives

Residents who were forced to evacuate their homes yesterday were allowed to return early this morning after authorities destroyed the explosives found in a home there Thursday. The devices were found after San Jose police officers found an explosive device in a vehicle during a traffic stop along U.S. Highway 101 near De La Cruz Boulevard. The driver was arrested on the scene.

A search warrant was issued for the driver's house and the ensuing searched forced 44 homes — near Burr Avenue and Boone, Wheeler and Sundale drives — to empty and locked down Kennedy High School.

The search was completed at 4 a.m. and an explosive device found in the home was safely detonated.
