Tour guide held in attempted robbery

A 22-year-old Redwood City man is in custody today on suspicion of robbing a visiting Taiwanese woman with a weapon in Palo Alto after offering her a tour of the area.

On Monday, about 5:30 p.m., the woman, who is in her 20s, was watching a soccer game at El Camino Ball Park when Daniel Arturo Vazquez-Flores allegedly approached and offered her a tour, according to police.

Eventually they ended up behind the Palo Alto Medical Foundation at 795 El Camino Real, where the suspect allegedly grabbed the woman from behind, pulled out a pair of scissors and held them to her throat.

The woman managed to struggle free and get a glimpse of the suspect’s car, which she reported to police. A sketch of the suspect was also created.

The information led to a tip from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, which led them to Vazquez-Flores.

Police arrested Vazquez-Flores on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in Santa Clara County Main Jail.
