Tour de Fat: Beer, bikes to benefit trails

Described by organizers as a "ballyhoo of beer and bikes," the Tour de Fat comes back to Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park this weekend.

The free event, which benefits the San Francisco Bike Coalition and the Bay Ridge Trails Council, is sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company, which explains the beer part.

The bike part is a 10 a.m. costumed cruise through the park.

Fire-jumping bike acts, aerialists, and at least five bands – Handsome Little Devils, the Asylum Street Spankers, Circus Contraption, the Sprockettes and Lord Loves a Working Man – presumably comprise the ballyhoo part.

All proceeds from beer sales ($4 for 16 oz.) go to the SFBC and the Ridge Trail Council (the benefit part).

And now for the best part: The entire event is solar/b100 biodiesel fueled.
