Top 10 movies of 2007: ‘Old Men,’ killers and a rat

A non-scientific sampling of top-movie lists from critics across the country — including contributors to The Examiner — reveals "No Country for Old Men," Joel and Ethan Coen’s layered modern Western, as the favorite of 2007.

Other selected films had a local flavor, with "Zodiac," based on the true story of the famed serial killer who rocked the Bay Area in the 1970s, singled out by Bay Area film writers. "Ratatouille," the story of a food-savvy rat created by Emeryville animation studio Pixar, also had admirers.

Note: Lists have been edited for length and consistency of format. Some critics initially included more than 10 films, or didn’t specify an order of preference.
