About those winds ...

The high winds are affecting arrivals at San Francisco International Airport, the duty manager there said. Because of federally mandated low ceilings and a different runway configuration, arriving flights will be staggered, and will touch down anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes late. The delays are expected to last from about 9 a.m. to about 1 p.m.

The Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry, which runs between the San Francisco Ferry Plaza and Alameda County's Harbor Bay, canceled service for the day around 6 a.m. after officials learned of the gusty winds anticipated around the San Francisco peninsula, according to ferry spokesman Ernest Sanchez. Sanchez said the type of boat that runs from the Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry, called an Express 2, cannot operate with heavy winds. Ferry service is expected to resume Thursday.

The United States Coast Guard reports there is a small craft advisory in San Francisco and Monterey bays 20-30 miles from the coast, and gale warnings offshore.
