Today's weather and traffic: Thursday, Sept. 20 

The San Francisco Bay Area could see some much-needed rain this afternoon with forecasters saying there is a slight chance of showers, according to the National Weather Service. Current temperatures are downtown San Francisco 55 degrees and 54 degrees at San Francisco International Airport.

Today's highs are expected to be in the uppers 60s to the lower 70s with mostly cloudy conditions throughout the day.

Winds, which canceled some ferry service yesterday, are not as strong in the 5-10 mile per hour range coming mostly from the northeast. Alameda ferries are back in service today as well.

This morning's traffic

Bay Area drivers were experiencing normal drive times with no major inconveniences other than regular early-morning rush hour congestion. Drivers on the Bay Bridge in the westbound direction were stuck in heavy congestion with average speeds of 19 miles per hour ina 50 mph zone.

Tonight's weather

The Bay Area tonight is expected to be partly cloudy with lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Northwest winds of 5 to 10 mph are anticipated.

Tomorrow's forecast

Friday should be partly cloudy with highs in the 60s to lower 70s. South winds of 5 mph are expected in the morning, becoming west winds of 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
