Three Redwood City schools earn accolades 

Three Redwood City School District schools have won various honors.

Adelante Spanish Immersion School and North Star Academy were named California Distinguished Schools by the state Department of Education.

In addition, Hoover School is receiving a J. Russell Kent Award from the San Mateo County School Boards Association for its Familias Unidas program, and North Star is receiving a Kent Award for its third-eighth grade enrichment program.

Adelante and North Star were among 484 elementary schools in the state and 12 from San Mateo County to win the designation.
