Three Bay Bridge crashes Sunday morning involve nine vehicles

Three separate crashes involving a total of nine vehicles occurred on the Bay Bridge Sunday morning, temporarily shutting down some westbound traffic lanes, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Dianna McDermott.

The accidents occurred around 9:40 a.m. just west of the Yerba Buena Island tunnel, and resulted in periodic lane closures that backed up traffic for about 90 minutes, McDermott said.

Two people were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries, according to CHP.

The cause of the three crashes was under investigation, McDermott said.

All westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge were cleared Sunday afternoon, according to McDermott.
