Thief demands access to store's safe, then gets locked out

A crook locked himself away from the loot of a clothing store Sunday, police said.

Around 5:30 p.m., a man in his 30s entered a Gap Body store in the 2000 block of Chestnut Street brandishing a silver handgun, cops said.

The gun-wielding bandit escorted an employee and customer to the back of the store where the safe was located, police said.

The employee told the thief that the security door to the safe room would close automatically after they entered. The employee and the customer went into the room but the crook refused. The door closed, locking the crook out, who then fled on foot, cops said.

No arrest has been made.
