The Small Ripoff -- DCCC conference call costs $5. Or nothing.

I don't think I've ever seen a small-dollar fundraising pitch quite like this e-mail from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee:

[W]e wanted to give you one last opportunity to join the DCCC and receive your official member card in the mail, our welcome package and a special invitation to join our 2010 Strategy Call with DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen tomorrow at 1pm Eastern.

There has never been a more critical time for you to take the next step to join the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee at a special discounted rate of just $5.

Claim your membership today at a special rate of $5 and you will be on our call tomorrow at 1pm Eastern with Rep. Chris Van Hollen.

Based on the e-mail and the page it links to, you'd think you have to donate $5 to get on the conference call with Van Hollen.

But you don't. On Tuesday, the DCCC sent out a link to this page, which still lets you sign up for the call free of charge.
