The Great 2010 Cashout: Bayh to K Street?

Evan Bayh dismissed rumors he is running for Indiana governor in 2014, with a statement that makes me suspect he's already talking to Beltway lobby shops. Here are the relevant excerpts:

While Susan and I prefer Indiana to Washington, D.C., at this time, a statewide campaign would require relocating our children....

as I said when I announced my retirement from the Senate, there are many honorable ways to contribute to society – creating jobs, growing a business, helping guide an institution of higher learning, or helping run a worthy charitable endeavor. I’ll continue to serve, but my contributions will take a different form and on a different stage....

So, I gave the guy too much credit in my initial round of guesses on where our retiring senators would be headed -- I thought he was headed back to Indy to work for Eli Lilly or the like. I need to modify my prediction. While he could go to a trade group -- like a rumored new lobby for just the five biggest health insurers -- I predict he joins his father on K Street, possible even at Venable, where Birch Bayh is a lobbyist.
