WHAT: The international gang suspected of Europe’s biggest soccer-fixing scandal supplied team doctors and hotel cooks with sedatives to drug players. As many as 200 games might have been rigged, including some qualifying matches in the Champions League, the continent’s top club competition.
HOW: The gang also allegedly bribed players, coaches and referees. They were active in 11 European nations and several Asian countries as well. The German fourth-tier club in Ulm recently suspended three Eastern European players suspected of match-fixing.
WHAT’S BEING DONE: Investigations are ongoing in at least three countries. About 200 people are suspected of being involved, and the ringleaders are believed to have made at least $15 million.
