The Daily Outrage: Officials cover up mistreatment of immigrants

Who: Immigration and Customs Enforcement

What: Immigration officials routinely worked to cover up evidence of mistreatment and substandard care, and actively worked to deflect media attention from the 107 deaths of immigrants in custody that have occurred since 2003, according to documents obtained by the New York Times and American Civil Liberties Union.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: The New York Times found that, despite vows by the Obama administration to overhaul immigration detention, many of the same officials remain in charge, and that the agency continues to essentially investigate and police itself, providing no external oversight.
