The Daily Outrage: National Guard families told loved ones were injured

WHAT: Nearly 1,500 Vermont National Guard soldiers began deployment to Afghanistan last month. Now, their families at home are getting late-night calls from a yet-unknown woman who says she’s sorry to have heard that their relative was hurt in action.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: Similar calls telling families their relatives were “coming home in a body bag” were made during the 1990-91 Operation Desert Storm deployment. Those calls stopped after media exposure. Vermont’s attorney general has pledged to prosecute anyone found to have made the hoax calls.
