The Daily Outrage: Lawmakers relying more on lobbyist documents

WHAT: State legislators nationwide increasingly are sponsoring bills for which all they had to do was fill in the blanks on a lobbyist-distributed template, according to an Associated Press investigation.

WHY: Legislation templates have been around for years, but now technology spreads them from state to state faster than ever. Instead of scanning or even retyping sample bills, the legislation is delivered as electronic files.

HOW IT WORKS: The Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act, which would ban mandated government health insurance, has been introduced in 30 states since 2008. An NRA-drafted law that says employers can’t keep workers from storing guns in cars on company lots has been enacted in four states.
