What: Two new European investigations have accused the UN’s World Health Organization of exaggerating the dangers of the H1N1 virus and hiding possible influence by the pharmaceutical industry on its vaccination recommendations.

How: The investigators said the WHO triggered widely unnecessary fear that stampeded nations to waste millions of dollars worldwide, based on advice from experts tied to drug makers

What’s being done: The WHO has begun its own investigation by an independent panel of experts led by the medical chief of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
