The Daily Outrage: Equipment to clean up oil spill keeps running out

WHAT: A seemingly unending demand for all types of oil spill cleanup equipment and government-required protective gear keep making vital supplies run out. The recurrent shortages delay removal of the sticky mess from Gulf Coast beaches and marshes.

SLOWDOWN: Workers can be seen sitting around waiting for even the most basic supplies to arrive. Elsewhere, beach cleanup is being done by hand because there are not enough sand-sifting machines available.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: Supply contractors and BP say they are purchasing needed equipment worldwide and bringing it in as fast as possible. Also, they are testing and ordering new devices, such as actor Kevin Costner’s Ocean Therapy Solutions oil centrifuges, 32 of which are now being deployed.
