The colorful Ida Maria will be appearing at Popscene

Punky Norwegian rocker Ida Maria has a rare condition called synesthesia, which allows her brain to register sounds as colors.

That could account for why her 2009 debut “Fortress Round My Heart,” and flagship singles like “Oh My God” and “I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked,” were so stunningly vibrant. Or why chic designer Betsey Johnson recently invited her to perform for her Fashion Week show in New York.

Now, the snarl-throated singer is back with a kick-ass new sophomore effort, “Katya,” which hits stores June 7 on Mercury.

And local concert whiz kid Aaron Axelsen has just snagged Ida Maria for a June 16 date at his Rickshaw Stop-based nightclub Popscene (www.popscene-sf.com). She isn’t wasting any time getting the word out.

The Butch Walker-produced disc’s first single, “Bad Karma,” is already on sale, and used prominently in the film “Scream 4” as well as several TV promotional spots. She’s come a long way from her tiny hometown of Nesna!

Stay tuned here for more on this great artist shortly, or tune in to www.idamariamusic.com.
