The Appropriators Party warns those upstart Republicans

I've written about the K Street Wing of the GOP trying to "co-opt" those Tea Partiers, and David Limbaugh has covered the GOP establishment swearing that the "crazier" Republicans won't do anything like repeal health care.

Now we get the Appropriators Party members warning the Republicans about that whole idea of cutting earmarks:

Rep. Jerry Lewis plans on having a few words with Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina, if Fiorina is elected.

Lewis, R-Redlands, attended a Fiorina campaign event last week at a shuttered San Bernardino car dealership and stood in the audience as the former Hewlett-Packard CEO lambasted congressional earmarks.

Fiorina said it is time to ban earmarks once and for all and called them "corrupting" and a waste of taxpayer money.

Lewis, the ranking member of the House appropriations committee, has long defended the special budget allocations.

In an interview after Fiorina's speech, Lewis said that if she is elected he would sit down with her and discuss some of the important projects funded through earmarks.

He cited two funded in his 41st Congressional District: the Predator drone aircraft and the proton cancer treatment center at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

"I am not concerned about her comments on earmarks," the longtime Inland lawmaker said.
