The 3-minute interview with Kerri Walsh

Having already distinguished herself as a four-time first-team All-American volleyball player at Stanford, the 29-year-old has blossomed into perhaps the finestfemale spiker in the world. Along with playing partner Misty May-Treanor, the two-time MVP and the rest of the Association of Volleyball Professionals Tour invade The City this weekend for the season-ending San Francisco Best of the Beach.

Are you looking forward to this weekend? I am. I flew in [Monday] morning and now I get some face time with my family [she grew up in Scotts Valley and went to Mitty High School in San Jose]. I get to spend the whole week here, which hasn’t happened since college.

Will you be reconnecting with some of your Stanford friends? I think a lot of ’em are out of town. But my family are my best friends. I’m just really excited to have a lot of the players on the tour experience Northern California and all it has to offer. It’s just different from Southern California and I think people will enjoy it.

Do you have another job besides volleyball? Volleyball is my career [she has earned more than $1 million in five seasons]. I have a lot of other projects, but my volleyball career pays my bills and takes care of that part of my life.

What do you think of the new indoor winter tour? It’s just a fun format. I’m not sure I have all the logistics. You don’t play with a regular partner and it’s round-robin and culminates in one night. It’s a bit of a quicker format.
