Texas library receives grant for computers it never requested

WHO: U.S. Department of Commerce, via Texas Connects Coalition

WHAT: The Madison County, Texas, Public Library received funds to buy 16 new computers to replace nine computers bought just two years ago. The grant also funds a part-time computer-class instructor and a variety of peripherals.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The money came from a $9.6 million economic recovery grant awarded by the Commerce Department to the Texas Connects Coalition. The library did not request the funds — possibly because its existing computers were working just fine.
