Testing at SFPD crime lab halts amid probe

Police said Tuesday they have stopped testing drugs at the department crime lab amid accusations that a civilian lab technician took cocaine from evidence samples.

Police began investigating Debbie Madden, 60, in December following an audit by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors.

In February, investigators interviewed Madden about the accusations. A search warrant was executed at her San Mateo home, where the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department arrested her on a weapons charge and a restraining order issue.

Madden has not been charged with anything in connection to the evidence tampering.
