Tennis coalition offers to repave 12 Golden Gate Park courts

The SF Tennis Coalition wants to pick up a $45,000 tab to repave 12 tennis courts in Golden Gate Park because they’re cracked, prone to puddles and about seven years overdue for a new surface.

According to Rec and Park documents public courts should have their surfaces replaced every two years, and these haven’t seen a renovation since 2001.

The same thing happened with the Crocker football field.

It would take about 10 days to do the work, and Rec and Park has figured the best time is after Labor Day weekend, but then it would displace school teams for the duration.

The Rec and Park Commission is supposed to vote on whether they want to accept the gift from the coalition Thursday, but then the Board of Supervisors gets the final say-so.
