This fired-up tenant was apparently not bluffing on Friday when he allegedly threatened to burn down his landlord’s home.

Just before 11 p.m., the landlord of a home in the 400 block of Alameda Avenue in Half Moon Bay called San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies, saying a tenant was sending him threatening text messages. Lars Ehlers, 50, allegedly threatened to burn down the landlord’s home after being told he was being evicted, deputies said.

When deputies arrived at the home, they said they found a patch of carpet that had been burned. There also were burn marks on three deck rails, deputies said.

A bottle of lighter fluid was reportedly found on a shelf in Ehlers’ bedroom.

Ehlers was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail on arson charges, deputies said.
