Teenage girl assaulted for no apparent reason in Potrero Hill

A 16-year-old girl was assaulted for no apparent reason in Potrero Hill on Wednesday, police said.

The victim was talking to a friend near 17th and De Haro streets about 2:45 p.m. when she noticed three women and one man walking toward her.

One of the women punched her in the face and threw her to the ground, police said. Once she was on the ground the rest of the group joined in and began hitting her.

The suspect who threw the victim to the ground then grabbed her head and slammed it into the sidewalk, police said, before the group of thugs fled in an unknown direction.

The victim was treated at the hospital for her injuries, which were not life threatening.

No arrests have been made.
