Teen escapes after abduction, assault in Palo Alto

A 17-year-old girl who was reportedly kidnapped in Palo Alto on Tuesday afternoon before being sexually assaulted managed to escape from the suspect’s car in Sunnyvale about 90 minutes after the abduction, police said.

Between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., an unknown attacker approached the girl in the 500 block of Arastradero Road near Henry M. Gunn High School as she walked home. The suspect allegedly hit the girl in the face several times and dragged her into his vehicle, according to police.

The suspect then took the victim to another location, where he reportedly assaulted her, police said. About 90 minutes later, the victim managed to flee from the assailant’s vehicle and sought aid in Sunnyvale.

Palo Alto police officers and Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers are investigating the crime at two separate locations, police said.

The suspect, who is described as a black male between the ages of 20 and 30 with short hair and a medium height and build, was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to call the Palo Alto Police Department’s tip line at (650) 329-2190.
