Tea Party happy with Heller pick for Nevada Senate

Outside of the Sharon Angle camp, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval’s (R) pick of Rep. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) to succeed retiring Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) has been greeted warmly. But Public Policy Polling (Daily Kos’ polling firm), “just for the heck of it,” decided to include Angle’s name in their latest Nevada poll anyway and here is what they found:

In one of the most lopsided head to head match ups in the history of PPP Heller leads Angle by 76 points at 84-8. Angle trails Heller 81-12 even with the Tea Party members who fueled her success last year.

Keep in mind Angle ran against Heller in a House primary in 2006 and lost just 36-35. Combine this poll finding with the one in January where 68% of Republicans in the state said they regretted her winning the nomination last year and it doesn’t look like Angle’s future political prospects are good even in a Republican primary.

Looking ahead to the general election campaign next November, PPP had Heller up just 4 points, 47% to 43%, over Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.).
