Syrian troops block wounded protesters from receiving medical care

WHAT: Syrian security forces in two cities “stopped medical personnel and others from reaching wounded protesters” and “prevented injured protesters from accessing hospitals,” according to witness statements collected by Human Rights Watch.

HOW: Two doctors who treated the injured said, “It was impossible to bring the injured into the hospital because it was surrounded by the security forces.” Another witness said, “Security forces did not allow the ambulances to approach ... the wounded.”

WHERE: Many of the injured in Daraa were carried to the Omari mosque. A couple of doctors and nurses, helped by local women, could not do much. They only had basic supplies from local pharmacies because the hospitals were blocked by security forces.
