Suspicious package at San Francisco police station deemed harmless

A suspicious package being investigated by the San Francisco Fire Department near the San Francisco Police Department’s northern substation has been deemed not harmful, according to police.

According to fire dispatch, the fire department responded to the suspicious package just after 6 p.m. Thursday at the police station.

San Francisco Police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said a woman brought the package to station. She said she received the packaged Wednesday.

Upon inspection officers discovered a suspicious substance, Dangerfield said. The package was then brought outside and the area was taped off.

The powder substance was later deemed not harmful by the fire department. The woman was inspected by paramedics as a precaution, Dangerfield said. There were no injuries reported.

The powder will be further inspected by the Department of Public Health.
