Suspect in Sunday's fatal stabbing in the Bayview reportedly found dead

The suspect in a fatal stabbing in which a woman's body was discovered in a stairwell in the Bayview district reportedly died by suicide, according to a report in the SF Weekly.

Taja DeJesus, 36, who reportedly identified as transgender, was discovered on the steps of a building in the 1400 block of McKinnon Street about 9 a.m. Sunday. She had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses provided police with a suspect description, and according to police sources who talked to the SF Weekly, that suspect was later discovered Monday hanging from a fence behind a warehouse in the 4000 block of Third Street about a half-mile away.

The man was reportedly wearing the same clothes he was wearing when he is thought to have killed DeJesus.

Officer Albie Esparza told SF Weekly that the incident wasn't being investigated as a hate crime, but said the suspect has been identified and is not a threat to the public. Esparza would not confirm that the man found hanging from the fence was the suspect in DeJesus' killing.
