Supes to vote on rejecting higher Muni fares

It may become unnecessary, but the Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a motion that would reject certain fare increases to ride Muni. Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi has introduced a motion to reject the so-called premium monthly fast passes for rides on cable cars and express bus routes. The board has to vote on the resolution next Tuesday. “Creating further tiers of fast passes for cable cars and express buses is likely to cause confusion with riders,” Mirkarimi said, when he introduced the measure March 23. The motion also comes with recent news that the state will provide Muni with $36 million. The board of directors overseeing Muni also meet Tuesday to talk about possibly eliminating those fare increases and other service reductions.
