Supes to vote on parking meter contract

On Wednesday, the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee will hold a hearing on a proposed amendment to an existing contract for collection of The City’s 23,000 parking meters, and plans for increasing the number of metered spaces.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which oversees Muni, is asking the board to approve a $16.8 million increase to the contract with Serco Management Systems, Inc. and extend it from July 1 to June 30, 2012. It would bring the contract total to $77 million since it was first signed with the agency several years ago.

The proposal includes at least 2,000 more parking meters, which is addition to the 4,965 parking meters the agency plans to buy during the upcoming fiscal year for parking meter pilot program.

Serco collects about $30 million in parking meter revenue annually.
