Superior Court: Etezadi put on bench

Allegations of campaign misconduct did not stop Deputy District Attorney Susan Etezadi’s bid for San Mateo County Superior Court Judge from succeeding in Tuesday’s election.

Etezadi earned 54.6 percent of the vote, beating lawyer Lisa Maguire in a rare contested judges’ race. She will replace retiring Judge John Schwartz, who was elected in 1968 in an uncontested race and who endorsed Maguire’s campaign.

"The courts belong to the people, and the people have made their decision," Etezadi said Tuesday night.

On Monday, Etezadi was cleared of allegations that she had used the county’s intra-office mail system to distribute campaign literature to fellow co-workers.

Maguire had filed a complaint with the state Fair Political Practices Committee accusing Etezadi of the illegal activity in May.

Etezadi did not know if the allegations hurt her campaign.

"I’m thankful that I was completely exonerated," she said.
