Supe wants happy meals to be healthy meals as well

Supervisor Eric Mar wants to take the happy out of McDonald’s Happy Meal.

While rifling through his 10-year-old daughter’s toy drawer he was horrified to find how many McDonald’s Happy Meal and Burger King toys she had stowed away. It was a real wake-up call telling him how many fast-food calories his daughter had consumed over the years.

This is why Mar introduced new legislation requiring fast food restaurants that use toys to lure kids into buying fatty meals to cut back on the calories packed in these meals. The legislation – he proudly titled Healthy Meal Incentive – would replace some of those fatty treats with vegetables and fruit.

“The Center for Disease Control data has shown that since the birth of the Happy Meal in 1979 the obesity rate of children quadrupled,” Mar said.
