Expect foggy mornings and afternoon sun this Labor Day weekend, which will be slightly cooler than in years past, according to the National Weather Service.

“We’re looking at the mid-60s through Monday,” said Diana Henderson, a forecaster for the weather service.

She said mornings are expected to start off foggy, then give way to sunshine — “except in the Avenues.”

“If you want to be warm, go inland,” Henderson said.

Temperatures will reach the 70s in San Rafael and the 80s in Santa Rosa, she said.

Watching the waves could be exciting over the weekend, with reports of 4-foot swells crashing onto the shore through Monday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Christine Riley. She said the swells could be “very dangerous,” reaching 15- to 16-second intervals come Monday.

What’s caused these swells is a large storm off the coast of New Zealand last week, she said.
