Sunday Caltrain terror drill not related to bin Laden

Federal officials want to make clear that a security drill scheduled for Sunday at the Santa Clara Transportation Authority Light Rail Station was pre-planned, and has nothing to do with the killing of Osama bin Laden or any related threat.

From 3:30 until 5:30 p.m., Transportation Security Administration agents and federal air marshals will coordinate with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the “visible intermodal prevention and response” operation, which is intended as a deterrent for criminal and terrorist activity.

A release from Caltrain on Friday said the exercise will include the San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station, but it does not directly involve Amtrak or Caltrain.

Police have stepped up patrols in San Francisco on both Muni and on BART following Sunday night's announcement by President Barack Obama that U.S. forces killed the terror leader in Pakistan.
