Study: Republicans more influential on Twitter than Democrats

Congressional Republicans are beating their Democratic counterparts on Twitter according to a recent study by a public relations firm.

The study examines the 'Power of Twitter in Congress' and uses a tool Twitalyzer  to measure the amount of influence a member has based on tweets, retweets and the active engagement of the author with its followers.

Currently leading the pack is Senator Jim DeMint of South Caronlina, author of the 'Smoking Tweet' angrily highlighted by Dem. Dick Durbin last month.

There are over twice as many Republican congressional members as Democrats on twitter, and Republicans are leading in almost every category.

Although Obama effectively used Twitter and Facebook and swamped McCain in this areas, Republicans, now out of power, are using these tools to effectively communicate with constituents.

The study is a facinating examination on the limited powers of Twitter in the political realm and I have embedded it below.
