Danny Wang, a motion-graphics design student at Expression College in Emeryville, recently placed second in the Wholly Guacamole advertising contest for his video of an avocado getting walloped into guac. The contest was hosted by Zooppa. A San Francisco resident, Wang was born in Shanghai, China. His video, "Guac Squawk #1," can be seen at http://zooppa.com/ads/wholly-guacamole/videos/guac-squawk-1.

What was your initial reaction upon learning that you placed second in the advertising contest?

I am definitely motivated because this was my first real contest. This is actually the first contest I entered since going to the graphics program at my school. It’s been mind-altering.

So how did you come up with the concept for your video?

Originally, the contest was a selection of products by Zooppa and it was actually part of our course requirement. Our professor basically said if we’re going to take the time to make a video, we might as well enter it in an online contest and see where it takes you. I picked the Wholly Guacamole contest because I just had a funny idea of an avocado getting bashed into guacamole.

Are you famous now?

It’s kind of gotten me a little fame in my school, but not so much. It’s more of a self-motivation type of thing.
