Stolen phone's ringtone leads to suspect’s pocket

Police had little trouble pinpointing a suspect in a cellphone robbery near Union Square Wednesday after they called the victim’s phone and heard it ring in the man’s pocket.

The victim, a woman, summoned police after she was robbed while walking in the area of Powell and Ellis streets, cops at the Tenderloin Police Station said.

She said she was talking on her phone when a man reached over her shoulder and swiped it, along with her ear buds, police said.

The victim was able to point out the suspect to police.

“Officers called her cellphone number, and heard the ring inside the suspect’s pants pocket,” police said.

The ear buds were also found in the pocket. The man, who had a warrant for his arrest, was booked into jail on multiple theft charges, police said.
