Stinson Beach reopens, cleanup continues

The National Parks Service reopened Stinson Beach in Marin County this morning following the beach's closure after the Nov. 7 oil spill into the San Francisco Bay, according to a parks spokeswoman.

The beach reopened at sunrise after prohibiting the public from entering the area for more than a week, said parks spokeswoman Chris Powell.

Although Stinson Beach has been deemed safe for the public, cleanup efforts are ongoing.

Trained volunteers will clean oily residue from Ocean Beach in San Francisco today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to Powell. Tents will be set up at Lincoln Way and Great Highway, and at Sloat Boulevard and Great Highway.
