Steel skeleton of San Francisco PUC building almost complete

Mayor Ed Lee will be at the building for a “topping out” ceremony Wednesday for the brand new high-rise building at 525 Golden Gate Ave. that will house the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

It’s a bit late in coming -- over budget by about $14 million as of January -- and it won’t have all the environmental bells and whistles that were once envisioned for it. But the ceremony is a good sign that the $205 million project is moving forward.

A “topping out” signifies that all the steel beams for the building have been put in place. The next step is to install the walls and this cool $1.1 million sculpture outside.
