State senator seeks to curb state retirement benefits 

State Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, is looking to curb the retirement benefits of state government workers. He introduced a bill that limits public employees counting pay hikes in their final year of work, such as vacation time and bonus at the end of their career, toward pension payouts. Pensions are generally based on an employee’s last year of salary. Some practices tend to inflate salaries.
