Golden Poppy Awards Gala: At its annual event Saturday at Fort Mason Center, the California State Parks Foundation honored three groups for supporting the state’s parks. The National Park Service was recognized for its efforts to keep parks open, and Stater Bros. Markets and Coca-Cola Refreshments were acknowledged for financial contributions toward projects in Southern California including reforestation, fire prevention, beach cleanup, dune restoration, recycling and maintenance along the coastline.
Ruth Asawa celebrated on film
Documentary premiere: “Ruth Asawa: Roots of an Artist,” about the acclaimed San Francisco artist and activist, screened Friday at the de Young Museum at a special benefit for Bethany Center Senior Housing. The Mission district facility houses Ruth’s Table, an outreach center for adults over 50, inspired by Asawa’s life and work.
New art-inspired Cow Hollow eatery
Atelier Crenn opening: Chef-owner Dominique Crenn, along with managing partner-owner Michele Astorian and general manager-sommelier Akop Paronyan, opened a new restaurant at 3127 Fillmore St. on Jan. 17. The seasonally changing menu offers a modern take on French cuisine, focusing on “cuisine as a craft and the community as an inspiration.”
