Stanford women picked to win Pac-10 

The Stanford women's basketball, which has won the last seven Pac-10 Conference regular-season titles, has been picked to win this season's championship.

In a vote of conference coaches, the Cardinal, led by senior Candice Wiggins and reigning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Jayne Appel, received eight of the 10 first-place votes and received 79 points. Arizona State came in second with one first-place vote and 71 points, while Cal is picked third after getting the other first-place vote and 68 points. The Golden Bears return conference Coach of the Year Joanne Boyle and Pac-10 Player of the Year Devanei Hampton.

Southern Cal was fourth with 56 points, followed by UCLA (44), Washington (41), Oregon (34), Arizona (31), Oregon State (16) and Washington State (10).

Stanford's first regular-season game is Nov. 9 at Yale, while Cal opens Nov. 10 at Fresno State.
