Stanford men's gymnastics ranked No. 1 

With two national champions and three other All-Americans returning, the Stanford men's gymnastics team opens the season as the No. 1 teamin the nation.

The Cardinal received eight of 15 first-place votes in the College Gymnastics Association preseason poll, which was released Monday. Stanford finished third at the NCAA Championships last season, behind Penn State and Oklahoma. Those three teams figure to dominate again as Penn State (four first-place votes) and Oklahoma (two) are ranked second and third this year. Fourth-ranked Ohio State received the other first-place vote.

Junior David Sender (vault) and senior Alex Schorsch (still rings) won individual national titles last season, while junior Chris Harper, senior Dylan Carney and senior Peter Derman were All-Americans.

Stanford opens its season Jan. 12 at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago.
