Squandered: HUD dumped $400 million into unbuilt housing

WHAT: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has squandered $400 million on nearly 700 stalled or abandoned projects that have been idling for years.

WHY: HUD handed out billions of dollars to local housing agencies but did not even track construction of the projects, according to a yearlong Washington Post investigation.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: A bipartisan group of lawmakers is calling for a congressional investigation of HUD’s vanished $400 million and yearslong project delays.
